Monmouth Police Department Investigator Josh Kramer informs a scam with Google has surfaced and offers tips in identifying the scammers:

“There’re emails, there’s calls, I have even seen where they send text messages saying that something is wrong with your account. Just remember, those websites are so big that they are not going to contact you. If there is some sort of an issue, they will either just deactivate your account or they will send you a private message through that app that there is an issue. They are not going to contact you. They are not going to send a text message. They are not going to present that problem to you by those means, especially by phone call, it is just not going to happen, and they do sound authentic.”

Additionally, Investigator Kramer offers tips when scrolling on social media; when ads pop up on Facebook or whichever means of communication you may use, he advises going directly to the retailer’s website and not clicking on the provided link to verify the site and product is legit.
