The Monmouth City Council had their third discussion on the proposed centerpiece option to replace the fountain in Downtown Monmouth, explains City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher:

“Back in August, Sarah Walters had presented a proposal to replace the fountain with a metal statue that would be circular with ‘Monmouth’ across the top and ‘The Maple City’ letters across the bottom and then in the center would be a maple leaf that would slowly rotate; then turn the pool of water into a flower bed. There was a second discussion on September 16th that suggested that Sarah talk to the Rotary Club. We did receive communications from representatives from the Rotary Board that indicated that they took no position one way or the other. Then during discussions at the last meeting, in order to give some direction to Sarah as to whether she should begin her fundraising campaign, Council did vote in favor.”

Steinbrecher informs it was presented to Council the centerpiece option would cost around $30,000, which Sarah would be fundraising for.
