(Galesburg, IL) — Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg is mourning the passing of a cross country athlete from Kenya who died in a crash on Christmas night in Rock Island County. Joan Jepngetich was pronounced dead after a vehicle she was riding in on I-80 near Barstow went off the roadway and hit a tree. The incident is under investigation. The Sandburg Foundation is raising funds to support the college’s efforts to return Jepngetich to her family in her native Kenya.
