Monmouth City Council has approved the sale of a vacant lot at 924 South D Street to a neighboring resident for $1,200. Mayor Rod Davies explains the process of acquiring city properties:

“The City has about a dozen lots now that have been cleaned off and actually gotten ownership into the city’s name, so those are the ones that we are able to actually sell. As development opportunities present themselves where appropriate, we are trying to find home builders or somebody who is wanting to develop those lots. Sometimes the neighbors are interested in them to incorporate them into their homesteads. In those cases, they approach they City and when they do, we take that offer to Council. We have received that Safe Communities Grant and have acquired and torn down over 47 houses in the last several years.”

Additionally, Council has approved an engineering agreement with Hanson Professional Services to rehabilitate the runway at the Monmouth Municipal Airport, which is federally mandated. No general fund dollars will be used for the engineering services or the reconstruction project.
