The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has added a drone to their department to assist with search and rescue, reports Sheriff Matt Link:
“You have to have specialized training on the law enforcement side, of course, of all the search and seizure laws. Our Chief Deputy actually had to go to a class and get a Commercial Pilot’s License to be able to fly the drone itself. So, he’s been logging hours and doing a bunch of recording with it. We are looking forward to using that, hopefully we don’t have to use it very often, but we do have it in case we do need to use it for anything from search and rescue, just anywhere we can’t get on foot. It will be a great asset to our office.”
Sheriff Link informs the drone had to be registered with the FAA and special paperwork had to be filed in order to fly in restricted areas.
