Graham Health System is proud to announce the groundbreaking of its new Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) at 2028 N Seminary Street in Galesburg. This $5.1 million investment in the facility, and an additional $1,500,000 in technology, marks a significant milestone in Graham’s mission to expand access to high-quality, affordable surgical care in rural and underserved communities.

The new facility will include two operating rooms and 15 pre- and post-surgical bays, offering a wide range of outpatient surgical services. These services include General Surgery, GI, OB/GYN, Pain Management, ENT (Adult & Pediatric), Urology, Family Planning, Vascular, and Podiatry—many of which are not currently available in the Galesburg service area.

“This project is a direct response to the needs of the Galesburg community following the closure of Cottage Hospital in 2022,” said Bob Senneff, CEO of Graham Health System. “The number of outpatient procedures in the Galesburg market have decreased on an annual basis over 65% since 2013. Our goal is to bring that care back to this market, to keep folks here in town.

Graham Health System, one of Illinois’ last remaining independently owned rural health systems, entered the Galesburg market in 2022, to increase regional healthcare services and offer patients a choice in healthcare providers. In just over two years, Graham has opened four clinics, including one on the historically underserved south side of Galesburg. This new clinic network brings primary and specialty care to the area as well as introduces a new full-service imaging center and comprehensive endoscopy suite. These clinics have already served more than 12,200 patients across 315 distinct zip codes and conducted nearly 45,000 patient visits.

The ASC will also align with Graham’s core mission of care for all. It will accept all payors, including Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care plans, ensuring accessibility for the 38% of residents in the region covered under public insurance programs. The center is expected to perform over 1,900 surgical procedures in its first year alone.

With committed CRNA coverage and active recruitment for an anesthesiologist, the ASC is set to be fully operational by September of 2026. As part of a broader development plan, the ASC is just one piece of Graham’s ongoing commitment to invest in the long-term health and economic vitality of the Galesburg region.

“We’re not just breaking ground on another building,” added Senneff. “We’re building a stronger, healthier community and a brighter future for Galesburg and all of Knox County.”

All Graham Medical Group Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers are accepting new patients, with same-day or next-day appointments available in most cases. Graham Health System and all providers accept all Illinois Medicaid, Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, and virtually all other insurance plans.
