Western Illinois Animal Rescue, Warren County Animal Control, and area veterinary practices have come together to launch the Feline Trap-Neuter-Release Program for Warren County. WIAR Board Member John Kennedy explains applications to meet program requirements are available:
“The important thing to remember is, this is a joint program. WIAR is funding this program. There is no charge to the public, we will accept donations obviously, but WIAR is paying the expenses for the program. We are controlling the process. Animal control, whether it is in Monmouth or certainly the County, they are a point of contact for the public. They are being contacted anyway, but they are in a position to answer some questions and point them in our direction. Area veterinary practices that are participating are offering a community service in terms of the pricing available to WIAR for the treatments of the animals. Mostly this a community effort,” states Kennedy.
“It is the community members, people in the public that are going to be doing the trapping, conveying the animals to the veterinary practice, picking them up once the animals have been treated, and returning them to their original location. That is why we are calling it Trap-Neuter-Return, Trap-Neuter-Release, same thing; returning them back where you found them,” Kennedy adds.
The goal of this program is to reduce the feline overpopulation in Warren County, as well as provide the animals with rabies and distemper vaccinations.
