The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1025 Lincoln St. this morning, Sunday, January 4th, at 11:42 AM. The response included all three fire stations and 12 personnel on duty. Battalion Chief Dewey Brackett arrived on scene and established Command of a working fire with smoke and flames visible from a first floor window on the north side. The Brooks St. fire crew made entry with a hose line and located a victim within the structure. The Fremont Station and Central Station fire crews coordinated to remove the victim from the structure. GHAS transported the victim to OSF St. Mary Medical Center. Two cats were located, and emergency personnel attempted to resuscitate the animals, but were unsuccessful. The fire was extinguished, and damage was found throughout the structure.

An emergency callback of off-duty personnel was initiated to provide emergency coverage for the city. Galesburg Fire Department Investigators found the cause of the fire to be unintentional.
