On April 20, 2026, the Macomb Police Department received a report of a large quantity of copper wire stolen from local utility vehicles. Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that over the previous month, several hundred pounds of electrical wire and related equipment had been taken.
On April 24, 2026, the Macomb Police Department executed a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of East Jackson Street in Macomb, Illinois, in connection with the thefts. During the search, officers located multiple items believed to be stolen, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Sean P. Hayes, 38, of Macomb, was arrested and charged with Possession of Stolen Property and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
