The United Community Unit School District #304 Board of Education is

pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Washabaugh as the new Principal of United

Junior Senior High School, effective July 1, 2026.

Mr. Washabaugh joins the United family with 14 years of experience in the field of education.

Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to academic excellence

and student development. Of those years, four have been served in administrative leadership

roles, where Mr. Washabaugh has successfully overseen diverse programs and navigated the

evolving landscape of secondary education.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Washabaugh to our leadership team,” said Tom

Hawkins, Superintendent of United CUSD #304. “His extensive background in both

the classroom and the front office brings a balanced perspective that is essential for

the continued growth of our Junior Senior High School.”

Mr. Washabaugh’s leadership philosophy is rooted in a student-centered approach, prioritizing

the unique needs and voices of every learner. By fostering an environment where students feel

safe, valued, and challenged, Mr. Washabaugh aims to build upon the school’s existing

strengths while driving meaningful school improvement initiatives.

A primary focus for the upcoming school year will be the enhancement of the school climate that

produces student success. Michael Washabaugh believes that a positive, safe, inclusive culture

is the foundation for all academic success.

“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and families of United Junior Senior High School. I

have seen the pride that the communities have for United, and I am excited to be a part of that,”

said Michael Washabaugh. “My goal is to ensure that our school is a place where innovation

thrives and where every student feels empowered to reach their full potential. Together, we will

focus on continuous improvement and a school that celebrates both our collective achievements

and individual growth.”

The district will host a “Meet the Principal” event, which will be part of 7th-grade orientation and

locker nights to kick off the 26-27 school year. This event will take place on Tuesday, August

11th, in the United Junior Senior High School Commons, giving community members, parents,
