‘Halfway to Freezing for Food’ Returns Amid Rising Food Insecurity

Share

As summer break begins, our Annual Halfway to Freezing for Food Community Food Drive event arrives at a critical time as more families visit the Jamieson Community Center Food Pantry, according to Executive Director Nancy Mowen:

“Food insecurity has been increasing. Last year was just a record high. This year is going to be higher than last year, not just through our pantry at the Resource Center, but also through the pantry at the Teen Center. Our Senior Nutrition numbers are up,” Mowen says.

“So grateful that our community steps up and is willing to help out to ensure that their neighbors have food. When school is out and kids don’t have access to those school meals, that makes a big impact on families. That is a lot of extra mouths to feed. Our numbers are always highest during the summer months,” adds Mowen.

The Annual Halfway to Freezing for Food will take place Tuesday June 2nd, Wednesday June 3rd, and Thursday June 4th at Save A Lot Food Store in Monmouth from 10 am to 2 pm each day, which will also be broadcast live on AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM and Sunny 97.7 WMOI. Members of the local community will be on site collecting monetary and food donations for the Jamieson Community Center and the Roseville Helping Hands Food Pantries.
