Western Illinois Regional Council (WIRC) recently completed upgrades to an eight-unit multifamily housing complex in Kirkwood.
WIRC CEO Stacy Nimmo says their weatherization team worked with the Warren County Housing Authority on the project.
“Our team went in and did an assessment of the eight units. This was actually our very first multifamily weatherization project. Warren County Housing Authority were amazing partners as we walked through this new process together. We did the initial testing and determined there were definitely some things we could do. We were able to reduce the residents’ energy bills by an anticipated 30 percent. The best part is the work was done at no cost to the residents and at no cost to Warren County.”
Nimmo says the project included new energy-efficient furnace heaters, water heaters, air conditioner condensers, ventilation, and attic insulation. The full project totaled around $170,000.
