According to Monmouth Mayor Rod Davies, steps to bring a new housing development area on North 12th Street continue to move forward:
“That property will be annexed into the City, which will include city water and city sewer. It will be a nice addition of single-family homes. They will be in the 1,600 square foot range, owner-occupied. We are very excited about getting some homes built inside the City instead of outside the City,” says Mayor Davies.
“It is important that we get that annexed into the City and part of the TIF. The development itself from the new construction will provide the increase in property taxes collected. It protects those houses around it. One, the characteristics of these houses will be similar to the ones that are there. With the City doing this project and having to follow the requirements, building code requirements, and very strict standards that we must meet, will protect all the surrounding homeowners,” Mayor Davies informs.
“We are going to develop the land and then the homeowner would purchase the lot from the City. We will have some general requirements in there about minimum square footage and such,” adds Mayor Davies.
Mayor Davies anticipates vacant lots in the housing development area will be available for purchase in the $25,000 to $28,000 range.
