Clinton Taylor Haynes Jr., 89, of Galesburg, died at 2:27 a.m. Monday, July 27, 2026, in OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born June 28, 1937, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Clinton Taylor and India Fern (Carothers) Haynes Sr. He married Christine Roberta Taylor Massangale on October 23, 1963, in Knoxville.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Christine; three children, Marc (Teresa) Haynes of Galesburg, Kim (Henry) Maxwell of Terre Haute, and Adrian (Sheila) Turner of Terre Haute; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Timmy B. Massangale; a brother, Louis Haynes; and three sisters, Norma Graves, Charlotte Wells, and Barbara Woods.
Clint worked at Admiral/Maytag for 37 years, retiring in 1997. He was the Assistant Director and Athletic Director at the Carver Center, where he enjoyed working with the youth and coaching basketball. As basketball was his passion, Clint excelled in his playing, and he loved talking with others about the game. He also was a dispatcher for the handi-van for the City of Galesburg for a time after he retired.
He was an active member of Israel of God’s Church. Brother Clinton Haynes was appointed a local Deacon August 28, 2005, at the 106th Annual Conference by Bishop Rollie Ewing. Deacon Haynes was ordained at the 111th Annual Conference August 29, 2010. He was appointed Christian Endeavor President and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent.
He served in the United States Army for two years. He was a member of the Galesburg Community Men’s Advancement Club.
Clint was a devoted family man. He consistently showed love to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2026, at Israel of God’s Church. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in East Linwood Cemetery.
