It will be a Star-Spangled Celebration in Raritan this Fourth of July. In addition to celebrating 250 years of America, the Henderson County Historical Society is celebrating their own milestone of 50 years, with events taking place throughout the day, highlights President Melinda Whiteman:

“Our annual Chicken and Pork Chop Barbecue, that happens at the St. Pat’s Catholic Church Community Center from 11 am to 1 pm. In addition to that, we are doing a Star Spangled Celebration in Raritan. We will be doing museum tours that will have two documentary type videos going on about Henderson County and the museum. We have a quilt show that is happening at the Raritan Reformed Church. We have a tractor show that is happening in the ball field behind the museum,” shares Whiteman.

“We also have the pleasure of having an actual one room school house and two retired teachers from Henderson County will be holding an old-fashioned spelling bee at ten o’clock. We also have a gentleman that is a Civil War reenactor and he is going to read an America’s 250 Address from the perspective of Ulysses S. Grant. The Raritan State Bank is hosting an apple pie contest,” Whiteman adds.

“At two o’clock the kids are going to take over Main Street for a Kid’s Parade. The finale for our day is going to be our Patriotic Program entitled ‘Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness,’” informs Whiteman.

Events in Raritan this Fourth of July begin at 9 am with the Patriotic Program at the Opera House starting at 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
