One man is dead after a workplace incident at Smithfield Foods in Monmouth. The incident happened yesterday at the Monmouth facility. WQAD-TV identified the victim as Patou Mpinda. An investigation is underway.

MONMOUTH, IL (September 15, 2026) The City of Monmouth administration, leadership, and community extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Patou Mpinda, a Monmouth resident who tragically lost his life following a workplace incident at the Smithfield Foods facility early Monday morning. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
A worker at the Smithfield Foods in Monmouth died Monday morning after a workplace incident. Smithfield Foods spokesman confirmed the death. They reported their safety personnel is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident. No more information being released at this time.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the loss of a team member who was fatally injured in a workplace incident this morning at our Monmouth facility. Our safety personnel have been on site investigating along with local authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with our co-worker’s family,” states Senior Director, External Affairs, Ray Atkinson.
