United and Mon-Rose Head Into Week 7 Looking to Keep the Winning Going

Share

We will once again have two games on Prairieland Media Sports on Friday, with United and Monmouth-Roseville both back in action for Week 7.

Starting with the United Red Storm, they finally broke into the win column last week and will look to make it two straight as they hit the road to take on the LVC Miners. United improved to (1-5) with a 20-16 win over Rushville-Industry in week six. The Red Storm trailed 16-14 entering the fourth quarter before Kellen Boone found Koen Sperry for a 28-yard touchdown to take the lead, and the defense came up with one final stop to close it out.

The win keeps United in the hunt for a postseason spot with three games remaining, and Head Coach Andrew Goodwin says the Red Storm still have plenty to play for.

United now turns their attention to an LVC squad that enters tonight at 0-6. The Miners have scored just 24 points through their first six games and are coming off a 56-0 loss to Abingdon-Avon. The Red Storm will make the trip to LVC in week seven looking to make it back-to-back wins, with kickoff scheduled for 7 PM. Our AM 1330/FM 95.7 WRAM pregame show will start at 6:30. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans have won two straight games after starting the season (1-3). The Titans got the streak going with a 30-14 win after a long trip to the Spring Valley Hall/Putnam County co-op in week five. They followed that up with a 32-7 win after another long road trip to Mendota last Friday.

This week, the Titans were scheduled to play Sherrard for senior night but with the Tigers canceling their varsity schedule early in the year, Monmouth-Roseville will instead host the Chicago Little Village Phoenix at Coach Dobry Field in Monmouth. The Phoenix are (4-2) on the season, with one of their losses at Quincy 63-8 in week two.

Titan football head coach and Monmouth-Roseville High School Athletic Director Jeremy Adolphson shares what he knows about Little Village.

Despite the rough start to the year, Monmouth-Roseville still has many of their season goals still in play. With a loss by Princeton to Kewanee in week 6, the Titans remain in the hunt for a 3rd straight TRAC West Division title. A strong finish in the final three weeks also gives them a shot at hosting a first-round playoff game.

Tonight’s game will have an earlier kickoff time, as Little Village will try to get back to the Chicago-area at a decent time. The game will kick off at 5:30, therefore the Sunny 97.7 WMOI pregame show will hit the air tonight at 5:00. With Homecoming being pushed to week 9, it will be senior night for Monmouth-Roseville, the seniors and their parents will be announced at 4:45. For this week’s “Titan Talk”, go to the SPORTS PODCAST section.

The Monmouth-Roseville cheerleaders will also be hosting Pink Out Night, with all the proceeds from their t-shirt sales donate to local teacher Michelle Hofmann, the librarian at Lincoln Early Childhood School to support her recent breast cancer diagnosis. A 50-50 raffle and free-will donation bake sale will take place at Coach Dobry Field throughout the football game.
