Harry Milton Engholm, 95, of Galesburg, died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024, in OSF Richard Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, Illinois.

Harry Milton Engholm was born on January 17, 1929, in Moline, Illinois, to Swedish immigrants Emil Engholm and Alice (Olsson) Engholm. He was the youngest of four children, with three older siblings — Nellie, Russell, and Bob. He was raised on a farm near Woodhull, Illinois, and graduated from high school in 1947. He was married in 1951 to Anna May Nelson of Monmouth, Illinois, and served in the Army in Washington, D.C. from 1951 to 1953. They then returned to Illinois and settled in Galesburg, eventually purchasing a home in 1958, a home they lived in until his death.

Harry worked for the Galesburg Register Mail until 1968 and then worked for Metropolitan Life until he retired in 1992. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for many years, serving on the council, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir. He enjoyed music, playing guitar, and woodworking. He especially enjoyed making wooden toys to sell, with the proceeds going to St. Jude’s Hospital. He was quite proud of his Swedish heritage, and loved visiting with family and friends, especially on the front porch of his house on the corner of Broad and Sanborn Streets. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life.

Harry is survived by his wife of 73 years, Anna May, daughter Terri (Bob) Stewart, son Jeff (Susan) Engholm, and five grandchildren: Craig (Liz) Stewart, Beth Stewart, Kyle (Nicki) Stewart, Isaac (Christina) Engholm, and Hannah (Chris) Engholm Stiedemann. Also surviving are nine great-grandchildren: Ellie, Haddie, Jace, Tate, Will, Alice, Elijah, Levi, Owen.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2024, in East Linwood Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Carrie Carnes will officiate and music will be provided by his son, Jeff. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral and Cremation Services of Galesburg is honored to serve the family. Online condolences may be left on the funeral home’s website at www.h-p-w.com.
