The West Central Heat football squad improved to 5-1 after a win over the Galva Wildcats last Friday. The Heat came out firing in the first half, punching in three touchdowns to take a 20-6 lead into the break. The second half wasn’t as dominant, as they were outscored 12-6, but it was still enough to secure their all-important fifth win, making them playoff eligible.
Since a season opening 42-0 loss to West Carrol, the Heat have allowed a mere 13 points a game. Head coach Jason Kirby says the defense has certainly been the backbone of this year’s edition of the Heat.
West Central now turns their attention to a huge test this weekend as they travel to face the Flanagan-Cornell-Woodland Falcons, who boast an impressive 4-2 record with their only losses coming against perennial powerhouses Amboy and Polo. The Heat will look to pick up a big road win and continue their march towards a postseason first round home game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night in Flanagan.
