Monmouth City Council has passed a Resolution of Support and Commitment of Local Funds in applying for an ITEP Grant to be used for a project on North Main Street, according to Mayor Rod Davies:

“That is the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program. That is the same grant we used to do our Downtown Beautification. We are applying for $3 million to do a project on North Main Street from Harlem Avenue north to the bypass. It would be resurfacing that road from Harlem down North Main, as well as two sidewalks on the east and west side of North Main Street, from Harlem Avenue to the bypass with pedestrian lighting and also pedestrian activated crosswalk at Jackson Avenue over to the Circle K,” informs Mayor Davies.

“Hutchinson Engineering is doing the application on that for us and it is a 27 percent local match. If we meet all the criteria that Hutchinson feels that we do and we are selected, our match could go all the way down to 10 percent. Those funds would be the Motor Fuel Tax funds for the road piece and then TIF funds for the sidewalk piece. We do have the matching funds available,” Mayor Davies adds.

Mayor Davies reports this provides City Council with the authorization to apply for the ITEP Grant with the specific parts of the project to be voted on as details become available.
