Robert D. “Bob” Flowers, 76, of Alexis, IL passed away at 7:05 am, Monday, February 13, 2023 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, IL surrounded by his family.

Bob was born May 16, 1946, in Dothan, AL the son of Milton and Doris (Farmer) Flowers.  He was raised and educated in Headland Alabama, graduating from Headland High School in 1964.  He attended Chipola Junior College and later graduated from Samford University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Biology. While attending Samford University he played on the basketball team and later went on to play for the ABA, American Basketball Association.   

Bob married Donna Jean Stout at the Edgington Presbyterian Church in Edgington, IL on December 16, 1972.

Bob was a farmer for 45 years just northwest of Alexis.  He also owned and operated M & W Ag Service for 25 years, later selling insurance for Country Companies for 10 years, retiring from Country Companies in 2012.

He was active at the Norwood United Presbyterian Church where he served as a Trustee and Elder.  He was a Mason.  Bob also served on the Alexis School Board, the Mercer County Board and was an active member of the local Chapter of Pheasants Forever.  He loved hunting, fishing, basketball, music, watching his children play sports and music programs. Recently he loved watching his grandchildren’s activities. He was an avid reader and loved Crimson Tide Football.  Bob had a saying for everything. 

Survivors include his wife, Donna Flowers of Alexis; his 3 children, Niki (Scott) Flowers-Kimmerle of East Peoria, IL; Kurt (Jenn) Flowers of DeForest, WI and Kyle (Ashley) Flowers of Alexis; 9 grandchildren, Malia, Charlie, Livia, Payton, James, Jaxen, Preston, Carsyn and Maisyn; his sisters, Margaret Pitchford of Mobile, AL and Pam Money of Gulf Shores, AL; several nieces and nephews in Alabama, Georgia and Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Eliana Kimmerle and brothers, James Flowers and Jerry Flowers.

Memorial services will be 10:00 am Saturday, February 25, 2023 at the Norwood United Presbyterian Church, rural Alexis.  Visitation will be from 5:00-700 pm, Friday, February 24, 2023, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL, Cremation has been accorded with a private interment at Norwood Cemetery to take place at a later date.  Memorials may be given to the Robert D.
