Carl Sandburg College Board Appoints New VP, Associate Deans

The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees appointed a new vice president and associate deans for the 2023-24 academic year during its meeting Thursday on the Main Campus in Galesburg.

Autumn Scott, who has worked at Sandburg since 2012, was appointed as vice president of student development. Scott, currently the college’s associate vice president for academic and student planning, will begin her new position July 1. Scott will assume many of the responsibilities of Vice President of Student Services Steve Norton, who will retire June 30. A doctoral student at the University of North Dakota, Scott began her time at Sandburg as director of TRIO of Student Support Services. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Monmouth College and a master’s in student counseling and personnel services from Western Illinois University.

Trustees also approved the appointment of James Hutchings (Humanities and Fine Arts), Lara Roemer (Social and Business Sciences) and Krista Winters (Math and Natural Sciences) as associate deans of their respective departments for the upcoming school year.

The Board accepted a bid of $115,684.75 from Laerdal Medical Corporation to purchase adult and child manikin systems. The simulators provide full-body, scenario-based training for students in the college’s nursing and health professions programs.

In other business, the Board approved the following:

  • Employment of Anneke McGruder as associate degree nursing instructor, effective July 1.
  • Employment of Lynette Fields as program office manager, effective June 1.
  • Employment of Sydney Godsil as student success advocate, effective June 1.
  • Employment of Margaret Kidd as student success advocate, effective June 1.
  • Employment of Sarah Morrison as student success advocate, effective June 1.
  • Employment of Christopher Stinson as third-shift public safety officer, effective June 1.
  • Employment of Jordan Eason as TRIO Student Support Services academic advisor/retention coordinator, effective June 1.
  • Resignation of Ellen McDowell as physical plant office assistant, effective June 8.

The Board’s next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. June 29 on the Main Campus in Galesburg.
