William P. “Bill” Whiteside, Jr. age 80, of rural Smithshire, Illinois, passed away at 1:20 PM on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at his farm. Bill was born April 4, 1943 in Downing, Missouri, the son of William P. and Bessie (Lair) Whiteside. Bill attended schools in Roseville. He was married to Sue Carlson and they later divorced.  

Bill was an independent cattle farmer for over 50 years. He also worked at Farm King in Monmouth, Illinois in the tire shop for many years. Bill was a member of the Farm Bureau. He enjoyed fishing in his catfish pond, mushroom hunting, and deer hunting with his family. Bill was also known as the man who never had a broken down fence on his property.  

Bill is survived by his significant other, Rosemary Williams of Smithshire, IL, two sons, Kyle (Alisa Hammond) Whiteside of Roseville, IL and Eric Whiteside of Galesburg, IL, one step-daughter, Nancy Berglund of Monmouth, IL, and one step-son Ron (Nancy) Williams of Logansport, IN, grandchildren, Cody (Rachel) Whiteside, Mackenzie (Austin) Schleich, Alyssa Whiteside, McKenna Whiteside, and Baleigh Whiteside, step-grandchildren, Michelle (Ryan) Nelson, Jessica Williams, Rob Williams, and Andrea Williams. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, one sister Roberta Stone of Springfield, OH, and two brothers, Merle Whiteside of Roseville, IL and Steven Whiteside of Monmouth, IL, and one step daughter-in-law Elaine Williams of Benbrook, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty Dober and Anna Fern Clouse , and brothers Dale, Donnie, and David Whiteside, and step-son Richard Williams.

A funeral service for Bill Whiteside, Jr. will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 AM prior to the service. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery, Rural Roseville. A memorial is being established and will be named at a later date.
