Auditions. A-U-D-I-T-I-O-N-S. Correct! Save the dates—Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19—to audition for this summer’s musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee!
Director Mel Agar is looking for five men and four women age 16+. Auditioners should expect to do cold readings from the script and come prepared with 16 bars of a song of their choice. There will not be a dance element. Auditions will be at Prairie Players Civic Theatre, 160 S. Seminary Street, Galesburg, at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, conceived by Rebecca Feldman with additional material by Jay Reiss and a score by William Finn, tells the tale of socially awkward youngsters finding joy, heartache, and a purpose in competing at the regional spelling bee.
“This show has been a favorite of mine for many years. It’s a very funny show, but filled with a lot of heart,” says Agar. “The small cast gives opportunities to really shine. At the end of the day, I knew it was a GREAT fit for the Prairie Players performance space and would be a fun way to spend the summer.” Performance dates are July 12-14 and July 19-21.
