Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 26th, 2025:
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is senior girls swimmer, Hayden Johnson. Hayden captured four medals at the Western Big Six Conference championship meet at Moline High School. She touched the wall first in the 100 yard breaststroke event, took 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle race and was a part of two gold-medal winning relay teams. Hayden will try to qualify for the IHSA state finals for the second straight season in this weekend’s sectional meet.
The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior volleyball player, Callie Hall. Callie was fantastic in a straight set win over the eventual Lincoln Trail Conference champion, Wethersfield. She filled up the stat sheet, handing out 18 assists, hustled her way to 6 digs and even smashed two kills. Earlier in the week, Callie had 22 assists in a narrow loss to West Central.
The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is sophomore volleyball player, Lilly Higgins. Lilly had arguably the best overall performance of the season for our area in a 3-set win over United. She pounded an amazing 31 kills and garnered 19 digs. Lilly came right back the next night and smashed 14 more kills and hustled her way to 8 digs in a dominating victory over Stark County.
The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls swimmer, Lily Furrow. Lily has dominated her events all season and continued that success at the recent Galesburg Silver Streak Invite and the Western Big Six Championship meet. She won a total of eight gold medals. Lily is the conference champ in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly and also swam the anchor leg on two winning relay teams.
The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls cross country runner, Marissa Putnam. Marissa was the highest finishing Tornado girl runner in the regioinal meet at Farmington High School. She ran a personal best time of 26:34, with shattered her old time by over a minute. Marissa was the leader at nearly every meet this season for A-Town, finishing her high school career with a flourish.
