Moon, Link win Sheriff Races

A retired Illinois State Trooper will be the next sheriff of McDonough County. With 31 percent of the county casting ballots, 55 percent of voters chose Joe Moon over current Sheriff Nicholas Petitgout (PET-A-GOO). With 18 of the 19 precincts reporting, Moon received 2,198 votes to 1,776 votes cast for Petitgout. Petitgout was appointed, then elected McDonough County Sheriff in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. Moon will run unopposed in the general election.

In Henderson County, Incumbent Sheriff Matthew Link was re-elected. He was challenged in the primary by Arbry Vancil, both Republicans. Link received 59 percent of the votes cast by Henderson County voters. Chandra Woodbury received 54 percent of the vote to get the Republican nomination for Henderson County Treasurer. Woodbury defeated J.W. Bill Knupp in Tuesday’s primary election.
