Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending January 29, 2023:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Carmyn Huston. Carmyn was dominant in the paint last week, averaging almost a double-double in two Titan victories. She scored 39 points and hauled down 14 rebounds between the two games. Carmyn also handed out five assists for good measure.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Derrick Sargeant. Derrick got hot at just the right time in a Lincoln Trail Conference win over Princeton. He more than doubled his scoring average for the season with 15 points, also pulling down 4 rebounds and handing out 3 assists. Derrick was a beast on the defensive end, as well, getting a steal and six pass deflections.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is junior girls basketball player, Shelby Bowman. Shelby was definitely in another world in two games last week. She scored 33 and 36 points respectively against Mercer County and Brimfield, respectively. Shelby was especially good from the free throw line, going a total of 26-for-29.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Capre Feruson. Capre has been solid on defensive end all season long for the Streaks but she broke out offensively in a non-conference win over Canton, pouring in 19 points. Her seven points also helped out in an important Western Big Six Conference victory against Quincy later in the week.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls basketball player, Ailexa Hunter. Ailexa came up big in a 23 point Lincoln Trail Conference win over ROWVA/Williamsfield last week. She poured in 15 points, with 10 of those helping her team get out to a big lead in the first quarter alone. Ailexa drilled a pair of three-pointers during that early run.
