Mr. Stephen LeRoy Hopping, 43, formerly of East Galesburg, passed away tragically in a car accident on Sunday January 21, 2024, in Groveland Illinois.

Stephen was born on July 18, 1980 in Galesburg, the son of LeRoy Allen and Mareda R. (Hall) Hopping.

Left to cherish Stephen’s memory are his mother: Mareda Hopping Davis of Morton; his four children: Kagan Hopping of Creve Coeur, Kortlan Hopping-Heth of Morton, Jaycee Carter of Abingdon, and Dominic Hopping of Galesburg; his siblings: Mark (Kelly) Hopping of Deer Creek, and Elizabeth (Danny) Stark of Carlsbad, New Mexico; four nieces, four nephews, two great nephews, five great nieces, and several more aunts, uncles, and cousins including: Amanda, Jane, Jesse, and Joshua. Stephen was preceded in death by his father LeRoy, his sister Laura Anne Hopping Dawson, and both of his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Stephen was born and raised in East Galesburg, later moving to Morton with the rest of his family and finding work at Resource MFG of Peoria. Stephen’s children were the joy of his life. He loved spending time with them while doing anything from watching his favorite football team: the Las Vegas Raiders together, fishing, mushrooming, four wheeling, or for an old fashioned walk in the woods.

Cremation is being accorded. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday February 3, 2024 at Faith Baptist Church in Galesburg. Pastor Curt Lipe will officiate the service. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at h-p-w.com
