Kehoe Eye Care has launched a three-tier myopia management program, utilizing contact lenses, eyeglasses, and atropine drops, to help slow the progression of nearsightedness in children, explains Optical and Marketing Manager Taylor Swanson:
“If you feel like your child’s prescription is changing rapidly or every year, this is definitely a program that you would like to look into. Later in life high myopia can actually cause major medical issues as well, so we really want to get started at a young age where we can really focus on slowing down the progression of myopia. If you are looking at a prescription, it will have a minus in front of it, instead of a plus, which is fairly common, but when it changes rapidly or changes a lot over time or gets higher rapidly, that is when you really want to look into managing that and slowing down that progression,” says Swanson.
“A lot of time it is hereditary, otherwise it is just the way your eyes are,” Swanson adds.
Early signs of children experiencing myopia include constant squinting, blinking often, rubbing their eyes, experiencing headaches, sitting close to the television, or holding screens close to their face.
